An exhibition and performances by contemporary writers and artists that explores numerous methods of experimental writing. SNO has identified a group of Australian contemporary experimental writers and visual artists – who have developed bodies of works that SNO recognises as being part of a broader conceptual language movement. The various tendencies can be seen as characteristic and to demonstrate qualities and values that can be traced back to the early European avant-garde examples and also to local conceptual interests in Australia in the mid-1960s. This exhibition and the associated performances, are designed to form a loose anthology of a group of writers and artists that spans over 3 generations in Australia. Following the thought-lines mapped out in the earlier 2015 exhibitions of non-objective writing, the curatorial conversation now shifts to the cross-art disciplinary approach we call In-formalism. Given the accepted premise of post-conceptual art/language/performance and in particular that focuses on more abstract constructivist principles, the curatorial ideas are able to be revised and redesigned, especially considering a Northern Territory audience.
